Updating SMARTdoc

SMARTdoc is updated at least four times a year. These major updates are named after the 4 seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall; followed by the year.

When to update SMARTdoc?

When a new release is available a notification window is shown after starting the SMARTdoc application. This notification is shown in the following order:

  • SMARTdoc Server: The server always shows the notification before the clients are informed.
  • SMARTdoc Clients: Once the server has been updated, the connected clients will receive the notification at their turn.

Note:

Please make sure that before you perform your SMARTdoc Server update a backup of the database has been created.

How to update SMARTdoc Server?

Please follow these steps for a successful upgrade:

  • Run SMARTdoc with administrator rights. Right-click the SMARTdoc icon and select Run as administrator.
  • Follow the update steps.
  • After finishing the update, please restart the SMARTdoc Gateway.

Note:

Versions before Spring 2015: Please start SMARTdoc from the Program Files folder, not the desktop shortcut. Once updated to a more recent version you don't have to use this workaround anymore.

How to update SMARTdoc Clients?

Once a SMARTdoc Server has been updated, SMARTdoc clients are informed at their turn. Once started, every client will get a notification to update. Before performing the upgrade, make sure SMARTdoc is started with administrator rights. if not, do so by right-clicking the SMARTdoc icon and select Run as administrator.

Note:

Versions before Spring 2015: Please start SMARTdoc from the Program Files folder, not the desktop shortcut. Once updated to a more recent version you don't have to use this workaround anymore.
